Security Checkpoint with Moving Curtains
Part of the Northeastern experience is to do 6 month co-ops. I knew pretty early on that I wanted to be in product development so I was fortunate enough to land a couple product design positions.
At Analogic, I spent a fair amount of my time designing a prototype that would speed up airport security lines.
An engineer before me came up with the concept while I fleshed out the details of the prototype.
It features an aluminum frame with sheet metal walls, the curtains and chain are driven by sprockets at the same rate as the conveyor belt below it.
When carry-on bags are put through airport security. It's common to have large and lightweight bags get caught trying to push through the heavy lead curtains. This design is intended to prevent that issue from happening and avoid delays in airport security.
